Another week, another rotation finished up! HIV was incredibly eye opening. Never knowing who was going to pop in the door for education was thrilling and nerve racking at the same time.

Tuesday, Liz and I visited the neuroendocrine unit at Ochsner Kenner location. We met a wonderful couple who was very concerned about the patient’s nutritional needs. She had been experiencing steatorrhea , oily bowels, for quite some time. In comes our nutrition expertise for a low fat, high soluble fiber diet to help. She was diagnosed with a terminal ileum carcinoid, but was treated as if she had short bowel syndrome after the surgery to remove the tumor. Malabsorption and sensitive stomach are complications of this syndrome. Hopefully our advice will be put to good use!

At the HIV unit, I chit chatted with a patient for about 45 minutes today. We talked about all the delicious food this city has to offer and we even traded recipes for oyster dressing! Success!

Speaking of recipes: Lauren and I made Biscoff Chocolate Chip Cookies yesterday. Alright, stop drooling already and look at the picture!!

We both agreed that the crackle on top was beautiful, but the biscoff taste wasn’t in the cookie once it was baked. On the other hand, the dough was very biscoff-y. All in all….DELICIOUS!!

I also made more olive oily pizza doughwhile I had the kitchen aid out. In case you didn’t notice, I love the eatliverun blog. Great recipes and we clearly share the same values. Eat, live, run. What more could you need? Anyway, this pizza dough was enough for 2 large pizzas. One will be made this weekend when I head to Baton Rouge for a few days. Update on that to come!

This weekend I am dog sitting for my wonderful Nanny, who is my god mother. I have been informed by some northerner friends that Nannys are grandmothers but not here! Here are her 3 crazy but adorable pups.

Beau, the black lab. Abby, the chocolate lab. Cooper, the golden lab mix. They are hilarious. We played ball for a good 45 minutes today.

Next week I’m headed to St. James Head Start in Vacherie. We will be heading there from Baton Rouge and Wednesday, the whole group will meet at Pennington for a seminar on childhood obesity.

Until next time! Eat Smart and Move More. And Geaux Tigers and Saints!!
